CATHOLIC PRIEST EXPLORES BIBLICAL VIEW ON POVERTY AND WEALTH CREATION IN NEW BOOK

On Sunday, September 13, 2020, Reverend Father Michael Chris Ndele of the Catholic Diocese of Sekondi-Takoradi launched a new book titled “AND THE BIBLE DID NOT SAY THAT WE SHOULD BE POOR.”

Addressing attendees at the book launch which took place at the Sekondi Youth Center, Father Ndele admonished Christians to be responsible for their own lives and not add their voices to the incessant complaints of lack of resources and opportunities.

According to him “scarcity is a human creation and when Christ came to the earth, His life was a testimony that we serve a God of abundance.” He added that “poverty is a mental construct and that as Christians, it is important we learn how to appropriate our share in the abundance of God’s creation.”

He also said that “each of us is unique and thus we all have a unique contribution to make to the world. However, due to ignorance, many of us are asleep on our talents and potential. This is a book aimed at equipping us with ways to harness our potential for our own benefit, for the benefit of society and for the glory of God.”

Madam Alice Darko who reviewed the book described the book as “instructive and easy to digest.” She praised the book’s reliance on several biblical passages to explain the relationship between poverty and wealth creation in the lives of Christians.

Dame Mrs. Ama Sarfo Ababio, who was chairperson for the event recommended the book for all especially the youth as “the book will help them take advantage of the opportunities that comes their way to create a better life for themselves.”

Reverend Father Michael Chris Ndele was ordained a priest in 2015. Currently, he is the Parochial Vicar of the St. Paul’s Pro-Cathedral, Sekondi.
