“BE SENSITIVE TO THE SICK, AGED AND THE DYING” BISHOP ESSIEN URGES PRIESTS
The Most Reverend Francis Kweku Essien has called on priests to avail themselves to serving their parishioners wholeheartedly especially when it comes to responding to sick calls. He made the call when he presided over the Mass of the Oils at the Star of the Sea Cathedral in Takoradi on Tuesday, 30th March,, 2021.
Bishop Essien said “priests must be sensitive to the needs of the sick, aged, and dying. They are vulnerable and must be given the utmost pastoral care.”
He further called on the priests to remain united in their ministry and eschew all forms of division and acrimony. According to him, “the priesthood belongs to Christ alone and all who are called to share in this priesthood must at all times act as Christ would.”
He also encouraged the laity to always “support the ministry of priests with constant prayers.”
The Chrism Mass is celebrated annually within the Holy Week to bless the oil of the sick used in the rite of the Anointing of the Sick, the oil of catechumens used in the sacrament of Baptism and Chrism used in the sacrament of Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Orders. It is also used to commemorate the unity of the priesthood.
